Monitor Calibration

Representing the beauty of a high-quality photograph on a monitor is not an easy task. Doing so for all monitors possibly connected to the internet is impossible. Some monitors are calibrated, others are left at factory settings and some are tuned to personal tastes. The grayscale below will help you to quickly evaluate your current monitor settings.

In order to get the most out of the images in the gallery, a perfectly calibrated monitor will allow you to differentiate between all patches. If you can't tell the difference between 0 and 2%, fine highlight detail is lost on your monitor, and the images will appear to be too bright or overexposed. If you can't tell the difference between 95, 98 and 100% (K), some shadow detail is lost, and the images will seem to be too dark or underexposed. The best remedy is to have your monitor calibrated. Nevertheless, depending on your equipment and expertise, you may be able to experiment with the brightness, contrast or gamma settings of your monitor, until all highlight and shadow patches are discernible.
