Model Shoots

These events are conducted every 3 to 4 months. Typically, one or three models, one photographer, a stylist and a lighting assistant are present. This is a non-profit experience. I don't pay any model fees, and I don't charge models for pictures. The models get high-quality pictures for free, and I get the permission to use them in our publications.

During the cold season, I rent a professional studio in the Düsseldorf-Köln area, usually on weekends as well as weekday evenings, or we go to other attractive locations. If the weather permits, I shoot outdoors or we go to interesting industrial or architectural sites.

Big Nudes

Helmut Newton was born in 1920 on Oct-31 in Berlin. The images in his famous series 'Big Nudes' are icons of photographic history. To pay homage to this great photographer, I prepared an image trying to replicate his distinctive style. In cooperation with FotoTV, we documented the shoot, and the resulting video can be viewed on their website by FotoTV subscribers.

Naked on Heels

Three trial shoots and seven consecutive days of shooting for my new book project 'Naked on Heels' were conducted during this time. A well known photographer and good friend, Alan Lowy from Arizona (USA), joined me for the last seven days, but we are not done yet. In addition to these shoots, I'm planning to visit some other interesting locations until the end of summer 2008. For a current image preview, select the proposed book cover on the right. Please come and see an interesting display of digital studio photography, including a small selection of my hybrid images, in the ‘FotoGalerie am Rathaus’, right next to city hall. Starting with the official opening on Jan-26 at 19:00, the exhibition is open every Tuesday from 15:00 to 18:00 and on Saturdays from 13:00 to 16:00.

This forum is the brainchild of Andreas Weidner, who is one of the leading B&W photographers in Germany, and who's images are represented by international galleries and are part of numerous private collections. Participation is limited to his forum members, but it allows to exchange and share all aspects of fine-art B&W photography. I have been invited as a guest lecturer, and this time, I will present some research on the limits of human vision and how it relates to the creation of photographic images. To support the presentation, I will have some of my latest prints on display, including recently made hybrid prints (digital on FB paper).

We went to the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina (USA) for two weeks during March. What a beautiful place!

Trips 2006

My wife and I visited two Cistercian abbeys in Burgundy, France. Following the suggestions in David Heald's wonderful book 'Architecture of Silence', we chose Fontenay and Pontigny. Some images of this trip are now on display in the 'Churches / Sacred Places' gallery.

Workshops

Experience shows, the best and most efficient workshops are taught either in small groups or on a one-on-one basis. Consequently, that is all I do now. If you like to know how to work with basic or advanced equipment, including large-format cameras, or you need some help with professional darkroom or presentation work, or you like to learn some sophisticated lighting techniques for model or nude photography, we can arrange a session around your needs and timing.
